Notes from Ben:
The Gedeo zone in southern Ethiopia is a hot spot for exceptional arabica coffee - considered the 'birthplace' of coffee, it is from this broad region where the first varieties of arabica coffee were originally discovered.
This coffee comes from the woreda of Gedeb, on a 30 hectare organic farm owned and managed by Metad. Metad also has a washing and processing station at 2000m above sea level, and which harvests and processes coffees from up to 2000 smallholders in the area. The company focuses on producing high quality coffees, retaining their intrinsic value with emphasis on traceability of origin and preservation of traditional Ethiopian varieties. Their operation has an important impact on the area and its inhabitants, as it is involved in investment in schools, roads and other vital infrastructure.
